ABOUT THE OSRV H.I. RICH
The H.I. Rich is the first of three U.S. Coast Guard Inspected 95’ oil spill Fast Response Vessels (FRV) to be delivered. Built by Midship Marine in Harvey, LA and of aluminum construction, the vessel can be rapidly mobilized to all Gulf of Mexico locations at speeds up to 25 knots and can operate 24/7 with a crew of six personnel. Oil spill recovery is performed with two (2) side-mounted 3-Brush Lamor skimmers and the vessel is capable of storing 249 barrels of recovered oil. The vessel is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art navigation, communications, X-band radar and infrared oil detection systems for nighttime tracking of oil spills.
Meet Harry I. Rich
The OSRV H.I. RICH is aptly named after Harry I. Rich, an individual who spent the majority of his outstanding career centered on improving oil spill response preparedness and capability for the exploration & production industry. Harry served as the Clean Gulf Associates (CGA) Executive Director from 2004 to 2007 where he was responsible for managing oil spill response equipment for more than 130 oil & gas operators in the Gulf of Mexico. Prior to assuming his role at CGA, Harry was employed by Texaco Inc. for 33 years, retiring in 2002. During his career he served in various leadership positions in onshore and offshore production operations. In 1999 he was named Director of Texaco’s Worldwide Emergency Response Program. He served on the Board of Directors of the Marine Preservation Association (MPA), Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL) and the Executive Committee of CGA. In 2003, he served as Chairman of the International Oil Spill Conference in Vancouver, Canada. The OSRV H.I. RICH is appropriately named and is in recognition of his tremendous accomplishments and lasting impacts in oil spill response. Harry has three grown children and lives with his wife Shari in Mandeville, LA.
